Using tags
Tags are the primary tool for organization in Simon. Tags can be nested (up to five levels), and any item can have multiple tags. This allows you to organize your work as nested folders, based on combinations of tags, or a mix of both.
- Nested tags are helpful when there is a clear hierarchy to the organization and make it easy to remember where something is stored.
- Multiple tags are helpful when you want to able to find things in multiple ways. For instance if I want to be able to identify all flows that included a product launch announcement, I can tag them that way. Or if I want to be able to find flows both by region and by campaign type.

The same set of tags are available across all of Simon. This helps facilitate a consistent organization across Segments, Flows, Content etc. By default, only tags that are used within that section will be displayed in the sidebar.
Creating and adding tags
In the table
Tags can be added to an item in the table by clicking on the + under the item name.
Click on + to add a tag.
When you type, matching existing tags will show up, and you will also have the option to create a new tag if there is no complete match. You will not be able to create a tag that matches an existing tag. You can also add and create tags on the segment and flow detail pages, as well as in the content builder. You can remove a tag from an item by clicking on the x next to it.
Tags sidebar
By default, the sidebar will show the tags that are used for that section of Simon. E.g. if you are on Segments page, it will show tags that are used for segments. You can change this by selecting 'Show all' in the dropdown next to the TAGS header (see screenshot). This setting will be remembered for a user across all index pages. This dropdown also gives you the option to 'Create a tag'.
Selecting 'Show all' will display all tags on every index page.
When clicking on the dropdown next to a tag, the sidebar also give you the option to Add a subtag, Rename and Delete tags. When renaming or deleting tags, those changes will take across all of Simon. When adding subtags, you can create up to five levels.
The sidebar provides the option Add a Subtag, Rename and Delete tags.
Backfilling tags for your existing folders
If you have previously used folders in Simon, we can automatically create tags for you when you move over to tags. Please contacts us if you are interested in doing so.
Finding items
Clicking on a tag the sidebar will show you the items with that tag. The selected tag will also become visible in the search bar. You can also search for tags directly in the search bar.
You can filter down your search further in different ways:
- Clicking on a tag in the table will add that tag to the search criteria. Only items with all the selected tags will be shown.
- Typing in the search bar also gives you the option to filter by additional tags.
- Using the search bar, you can also search by name in combination with a tag.
Selecting a tag loads it in the search bar.
You can search by a combination of tag and name.
Tags and metadata
When using a SendGrid channel action, the last level of flow and template tags will be automatically included as metadata.
